PROFESSIONAL NOTES

A trained linguist, Richard Burns has more than 30 years' experience as an English language teacher, educational methodologist and teacher trainer. The skills he has acquired inform and influence his poetry workshops. He delivers workshops for people of all ages, from five year-olds to senior citizens

WORK IN CAMBRIDGE

Richard Burns is Preceptor in Writing Skills at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. He held a Royal Literary Fund Fellowship at Newnham College, Cambridge (2003-5). He was a Royal Literary Fund Project Fellow (2005-6), responsible for developing intranet EFL resources.

INTERNATIONAL

Richard Burns has unusually versatile international experience. He has given poetry workshops for children, students and teachers in more than a dozen countries: Austria, Bosnia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, India, Italy, Macedonia, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland and the USA. Many of these workshops have been bilingual.

WRITER-IN-RESIDENCE

Richard Burns has been Writer-in-Residence at: the University of Notre Dame, Indiana and Centrum Foundation, Washington (USA); the British Council School (Madrid); the International School, Belgrade (Serbia); and in the UK, Parkside Community College (Cambridge); Neale Wade Community College (March);  Hinchinbrooke School (Huntingdon); Chantry High School (Ipswich); Elm Primary School (Cambs); Ditchburn Place (Cambridge); and the Victoria Adult Education Centre (Gravesend, Kent, for the Arts Council of great Britain).

TV DOCUMENTARIES

A documentary film about Richard Burns's methods was broadcast by Anglia TV in the Folio series. He has also received TV  & radio coverage on TV in Austria and Serbia.
